With only one loss, the Manhattan Beach Youth Basketball Junior Lakers won the Division G4 championship of the league’s March Madness tournament involving 13 teams. Surfing

Finals of the South Bay Surf League are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Saturday in Hermosa Beach. Awards will be presented at 10:35 a.m. at Waterman’s Surf Café, 22 Pier Plaza followed at 11 a.m. with the Surfers Walk of Fame induction ceremony where Tiger Makin will be honored at the base of the pier.

Swimming

Sign-ups are ongoing for a Junior Lifeguard conditioning program to be held at the Mira Costa High School pool. Walk-up registration will be available Monday, April 26, from 4-5 p.m. at the pool. Session 1 will be held Tues./Wed./Thu., April 27-May 6, from 5:15-6:16 p.m. Session 2 runs on Tues./Wed./Thu., May 11-20, from 4-5 p.m. Cost is $100 per session. The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) holds its Spring Classic beach volleyball tournament Sunday at Dockweiler Beach in El Segundo beginning at 9 a.m. The event is open to boys and girls in 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U divisions. California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will hold local tournaments the weekend of April 24-25. At Dockweiler Beach, Aloha Ball Club hosts Men’s B and Women’s AA competition on Saturday and the Men’s AA and Women’s A divisions on Sunday. Powerbar sponsors a Men’s unrated tournament Saturday followed by a Women’s Open on Sunday. Running

Registration is available for the annual Hermosa Beach 5000 to be held Sunday. The Men’s 5K race begins at 8 a.m. followed by the Women’s 5K at 8:45 a.m. The City Walk, which begins at 8:45 a.m., covers the same 3.1 mile course as the 5K at a more comfortable pace. Kids (12 and under) races conclude the event’s festivities beginning at 9:50 a.m. Unique Awards will be given to the top five in all 50 age divisions. All participants receive the collector’s item 4th edition T-Shirt and “Livestrong” type bracelet. Participant medals to all kids. Packet pick-up and late registration is available Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at Village Runner, 1840 Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 and from 7-11 a.m. at the Hermosa Pier Plaza on race day. The Redondo Union High School Athletic Association and the Redondo Union High School Alumni Association will hold the “Striff/Seifert Memorial Track Meet” on Saturday, June 5, at 12 p.m. Admission is free. Golf

The 23rd Annual Warrior Athletics Golf Classic will be held Friday, May 14, at the Los Verdes Golf Course. Proceeds benefit the El Camino College athletic program. The tournament format is a four-person scramble beginning at 1 p.m. with awards dinner to follow a 6 p.m. Entry fee is $145 per player and includes: Green fees, cart, mulligan package, tee package, all contests, dinner and 10 raffle tickets. Kurt Baker of Star Sports Performance is hosting free speed, power and agility camps on Saturdays from 8:30-10 a.m. at Aviation Field to teach the lifts and movements used to build powerful, explosive and fast athletes. Baker holds a degree in exercise with over 25 years experience and is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a USA Weightlifting Coach and a NIKE SPARQ Testing Coach. Space is limited. Basketball

Dave Miller, former NBA/NCAA basketball coach will host his MVP Summer Basketball Camps July 12-16 and Aug. 2-6. Open to boys and girls ages 5-14, each camp runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily in the state-of-art NBA training facility at the Spectrum Athletic Club South Bay. The camp focuses on fundamentals including offensive and defensive drills, sportsmanship and positive values that produce life skills on and off the court.
