The Hermosa Beach Little League Junior All-Stars captured the District 36 Championship for the first time advancing to the Sectional playoffs competing against other division winners from Santa Monica to San Pedro. Baseball

Central Redondo Little League is hosting the 11-12 year-old Sub Division tournament beginning Saturday. The tournament includes El Segundo Little League, who won the Section 4 tournament with a 12-1 victory over West L.A. El Segundo begins play Sunday at 4 p.m. El Segundo’s 10-11 team also captured the Section 4 title to advance.

Registration is available for South Bay Surf Summer Baseball Camps which run from July through Aug. 20 at the El Camino College baseball field. Each camp is open to players 7-14 and is held Mon.-Fri. from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Fee: $150. Directors are ECC assistant coaches Shane Schumaker and Tony Asaro with a staff of current and former college players and coaches. Volleyball

The  inaugural 4-Person Lady Sea Hawks’ Volleyball Tournament will be held Friday, July 30 beginning at 2 p.m. in Redondo Union High School’s big gym. All varsity players and their family members (male and female), faculty, alumni and coaches are eligible to play. Team fee is $60 (4-6 players). California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) is hosting tournaments throughout the weekend and on Wednesday at Rosecrans in Manhattan Beach. Saturday’s action features the Sharkeez Men’s Unrated tournament. Sunday includes Men’s AA, Coed B and the Icazsa Construction Coed Fours Open. Wednesday’s tournament includes boys and girls 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U divisions. Play begins at 9 a.m. each day. At the Manhattan Beach Pier, the CBVA will be holding the Junior Manhattan Beach Open Tour Stop 2 on Saturday, for boys and girls 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U divisions. The Aloha Ball Club, in conjunction with California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA), will be holding a tournament for boys and girls in 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U divisions on Saturday, July 31. On Sunday Aug. 1, Men’s A, Women’s AA, Unrated and the Powerbar Men’s Unrated Fours competition will be held. Play begins at 9 a.m. each day at Dockweiler Beach. Velocity Sports Performance will be holding youth football camps to develop explosive power, increase speed, improve agility, reduce likelihood of injury and improve fundamentals of the game. The tackle football camp will be held for athletes in grades 3-8, Mon.-Fri. from 9 a.m. to noon at Mira Costa High School. Cost is $199. A flag football camp for players in grades 1-6 will be held at American Martyrs in Manhattan Beach Mon.-Fri., Aug. 16-20 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $199. Aquatics

Board paddling practice is being offered on Thursday evenings throughout July at 6:30 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Pier. Divided into groups by ability levels, the sessions help novices get comfortable in the surf, intermediates gain technical input and provide experienced padddlers with someone to workout with. Fitness

AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Street in Manhattan Beach, is hosting Open Ropes on Saturdays from noon-3 p.m. for kids and adults ages 8 and up. Participants will bond while solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the course. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $20.

Basketball

Redondo Union High School boys basketball coach Tom Maier will be holding the 38th Annual Peninsula Basketball Camp at Palos Verdes High School. Open to boys and girls ages 6-14, camps run from July 26-30, Aug. 2-6 (boys only) and Aug. 9-13. Sessions are held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mon.-Fri. and cost $225/camper. Dave Miller, former NBA/NCAA basketball coach will host his MVP Summer Basketball Camps Aug. 2-6. Open to boys and girls ages 5-14, each camp runs from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. daily in the state of art NBA training facility at the Spectrum Athletic Club South Bay. The camp focuses on fundamentals including offensive and defensive drills, sportsmanship and positive values that produce life skills on and off the court.
