Mira Costa is holding a Winter Baseball Camp Feb. 23-25 from 9 a.m. to noon for players ages 8-13. Directed by head coach Cassidy Olson and pitching coach Carlos Rojas, the camp includes hitting, fielding, pitching, base running and daily games. Cost is $150 (add $20 after Feb. 17). Twelve-year-old Andrea Lee, of Hermosa Beach, won the SCPGA Toyota Tour Cup by two strokes, defeating a field of 12-18 year old girls with a score of 145 at Classic Club in Palm Desert. David Kim, 16, of Manhattan Beach also shot a 145 which tied him for 5th place in the boys division.
Volleyball
Registration and volunteer positions now open for the United States youth Volleyball League (USYVL) Spring Season. The 8-week league in El Segundo at Washington Park and Hermosa Beach at South Park will run from April to June and is also looking for volunteer coaches, site directors and clinicians (volleyball instructors). Fitness
GI Joe Winter Boot Camp runs through March 25 for ages 8 and up. Monday, Wednesday and Friday sessions are available at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. at the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven will start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the courses. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $8-$20 depending on activities. AdventurePlex will be holding a Ski Week AdventureCamp Monday, Feb. 21 through Friday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day. Open for children ages 4-12, campers will enjoy fitness gaming, rock climbing, ropes course (ages 8 and up), arts and crafts, Adventure Room play, cooperative games on the Sports Court and more. Football
Registration is underway for the Beach Cities Sports Youth Flag Football Spring Season which will begin in March with Friday night, Saturday or Sunday games. The league consists of four divisions for players ages 6-13. Most games are played at Mira Costa’s Waller Stadium, pitting kids of similar ages in competitive, fast-paced 8-on-8 games. Cost is $250 per player. Registration ends January 31.
Co-Ed Flag Football on the Beach leagues kick off Sunday, Feb. 20 at 10th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Games are played with two 20 minute halves, alternating guy and girl quarterbacks. Registration offered as a team only and must be made at the Community Center at 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach prior to the first day of the league. Individuals must contact us to be placed on a team for registration. Cost is $265.00 per team for City Registration with an eight team minimum and 24 team maximum per league. 10-person roster limit. Leagues consist of a 7-week season with two weeks of playoffs. The Sunday league runs from February-April followed by the Wed.-Thurs. league from April-September.
