Soccer: In anticipation of the approaching club tryout season, Beach FC is hosting open training sessions on Thursday, Jan. 29 for its Girls and Boys U7 to U10 teams. Families will be able to meet the coach, players, and experience the culture of the soccer club. Girls and Boys U7, U8, U9 will train from 4-5:30 p.m. Girls and Boys U10 will train from 5:30-7 p.m. All sessions will be held at Aviation Park in Redondo Beach. Football: The annual Coed Flag Football on the Beach League kicks off Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2:30 at 10 St. and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Games are played with two 20-minute halves, alternating guy and girl quarterbacks. Registration offered as a team only at the Community Center, 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach prior to the first day of the league. Individuals must contact Prank Monkey to be placed on a team for registration. Entry fee is $265 per team for six-week season and two-weeks of playoffs. Baseball: Redondo Union High School kicks off its season-long celebration of 100 Years of Redondo Baseball with its annual Alumni Game at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at Memorial Field. Running: The annual Village Runner St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run/Community Walk takes place Sunday, March 15 beginning at 8 a.m. The 5K race starts and finishes in front of Village Runner, 1811-A Catalina Ave. in Redondo Beach and includes a T-shirt, chip timing, age division awards and cash prizes to the top three overall male and female runners. The Leprechaun Dash for the Gold follows the 5K. Kids ages 4-12 will compete in appropriate age groups. Entry fees are $35 for the 5K; $25 for the Kids Dash (add $5 after Feb. 13). Swimming: Southern California Aquatics (SCAQ), the largest Masters swimming program in the United States holds a variety of programs at Redondo Union High School. SCAQ holds weekly stroke clinics and ocean workouts as preparation for triathlons, ocean competitions and pool meets with practices fitting most work schedules for swimmers of every level. Surfing: The South Bay Boardriders continues its South Bay Surf Series on Saturdays. The series features all age groups, from the under-9 Micro Grom Division to the over-50 Legends Division. Participants receive t-shirts and other goodies and finalists from each division win prize packages. Surf Series ratings winner receive prizes such as free trips, surfboards, wetsuits and more. Contests scheduled: Feb. 7 — Jacks at 26h Street, Manhattan Beach, Feb. 28 – E.T. Surf at 26th. St., Manhattan Beach; Mar. 28 – Becker at 26th St.; April 25 – Spyder at Manhattan Beach Pier. Volleyball: The Hermosa Beach 4-Person Coed Volleyball League on Tuesday nights begins March 24. Matches are the best two-out-of-three and player from 6-8 p.m. on the north side of the Hermosa Beach Pier.
