The inaugural Manhattan Beach Heroes ceremony was hosted by the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce and held Oct. 17 at Verandas Beach House.
The Community Leadership Award was presented to Police Chief Derrick Abell, who oversees Manhattan’s police and fire departments.
The Community Hero Award was presented to LA County Lifeguard Mario Rodriguez for his heroic rescues during a large Southern Hemisphere swell on July 24, 2018.
The Community Action Award was presented to the Manhattan police and fire departments.
The Community Champion Award was presented to Charlotte Lesser who since 1981 has volunteered for countless community programs, including the Manhattan 10K, Neighborhood Watch and the Beach Cities Health District.
