Kings of the Beach Documentary party
A party for investors and supporters of a documentary about California beach volleyball brought together many of the sport’s greatest players, including two of its first Olympic medalists, Karch Karaly and Mike Dodd. The party was held at the Manhattan Beach Strand home of Robert and Rebecca DeSantis on May 13. “Kings of the Beach,” according to its producer Kevin Cleary, a founder in 1983 of the AVP, will follow professional beach volleyball from its golden era in the‘80s and ‘90 to its decline in the early 2000s. A principal theme will be the partnership of Karch Karaly and Singin Smith, which ended with the two on opposite sides of the net in the semi finals of beach volleyball’s first Olympics, in Atlanta in 1996.
