Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach hosted two of the most prestigious stops on the AVP Volleyball tour this summer.The Manhattan Beach AVP Open was part of the AVP Gold Series with a purse of $125,000. In the Sunday, Aug. 19 finals, Phil Dalhausser (Manhattan Beach) and Nick Lucena held off Taylor Crabb (Redondo Beach) and Jake Gibb for a 12-21, 22-20, 17-15 victory.
Alix Klineman (Manhattan Beach) and April Ross captured the women’s crown with a 27-25, 17-21, 17-15 win over Brittany Hochevar (Torrance) and Kelly Claes.
In the July 29 Hermosa Beach AVP Open Theo Brunner (Torrance) and John Hyden defeated Billy Allen (Redondo Beach) and Ryan Doherty (Hermosa Beach) 21-19, 16-21, 16-14 for the men’s title. The women champions were Sara Hughes and Summer Ross who edged out Klineman and Ross 19-21, 21-19, 17-15.
