Beach Sports – Tom Collier Memorial Regatta

The 27th Annual Tom Collier Memorial Regatta last month raised over $20,000 for the Cedars-Sinai Cancer Research Lab. Collier was a competitive sailor and member of the King Harbor Yacht Club, which hosts the race. He passed away from cancer at age 31. Sailboats from 17 to 44 feet competed to have their name on the perpetual trophy, a dolphin sculpture by Wyland. Steve Fechner, skippered his 17-foot catamaran “Nacra,” to victory. He finished 27 seconds ahead of Jeffrey Coyle’’s XP 44 sloop “DistraXion. Over the years, the regatta has raised over $650,000 for cancer research. Sponsors included Maurice Lacroix timepieces, Blue Pacific Yachts, and the Comedy and Magic Club.
