BBQ Global (Non American)
Silvio’s Brazilian BBQ
Brazilian food is having a moment right now. People who have never heard of coxinha pastries and Picànha cuts of beef a few years ago are ordering them in droves. Silvio’s was ahead of the curve, having started serving Brazilian barbecue at their Torrance location almost 20 years ago. This style of barbecue is all about meat flavor rather than the smoke, simply seasoned rather than the American version that is served with a spicy sauce. The food at Silvio’s is portioned rather than served in unlimited amounts the way they are at Churrascaria restaurants, but the portions are generous and the prices moderate. What is most important is that the flavors are the same as you would experience at a cafe by the beach at Copacabana.

Breakfast
Good Stuff
The original in Hermosa is currently closed for remodeling, so the other locations of Good Stuff have to serve the throngs who keep the place hopping midweek and weekends. Whether you order their two egg breakfast with Applewood smoked bacon and toast or hashed browns, a Mexican-inspired feast like their carnitas breakfast tacos, a Hawaiian loco moco, or something healthier, they have it and it’s good. Those on special diets will find what they like, whether it’s gluten-free buttermilk pancakes, a bowl with yogurt and granola, or something high-protein for the workout crowd. When you want good stuff for breakfast, where else would you go but the place that says it right in the name?

Brewpub
Hermosa Brewing Company
Strictly speaking, Hermosa Brewing Company is a taproom rather than a brewpub. Then again, that is true of every establishment in the beach cities, because there are no places that brew beer on site and also have a kitchen this side of Torrance. Hermosa Brewing does serve their own beers. They’re just brewed elsewhere, but with names reflecting the beach, like Everyday Sunshine, and Pier to Pier. There are multiple variations on IPA’s and a variety of other beers that are well matched with excellent food. If a raspberry berliner or blood orange lager sounds great on a hot day, or a barrel aged red or stout hits the spot in the evening, Hermosa Brewing is the place to go.
