Dive N’ Surf will be honoring legendary surfer and surfboard shaper Bing Copeland Saturday with a Bing Surfboards Reunion in conjunction with the Vintage Longboard Club Swap Meet from noon to 4 p.m. The event will bring together past and current Bing Surfboard teamriders, craftsmen, and associates as well as other surf icons.
“Bing is one of the big five surf manufacturers in the ‘60s who put Hermosa Beach on the map as the original and true Surf City,” said local all star longboarder Shawn O’Brien, who is on the surf committee for the Hermosa Beach Hotdogger Championship longboard contest set for October 3. “Bing, Dewey Weber, Rick Surfboards, Greg Noll, and Hap Jacobs created surf culture.”

Besides the eye candy of various Bing Surfboards from different eras, Vintage Longboard Collectors Club members will be showcasing their prized surfboards, some for sale, swap or just to admire.
“It’s easy to get lost in awe among the club members’ collections,” said O’Brien. “While there’s a price on some of the boards, in the grand scheme of things these surfboards are priceless.”
The event is free to the public.
“It’s fitting that this event is held at the world’s oldest dive and surf shop,” said Dive N’ Surf’s Saul Zaragoza. “Come and meet legends and surf stars from back in the day and check out some of the surf memorabilia we have in the store.”
Dive N’ Surf is at 504 N. Broadway, Redondo Beach. ER
