Shade Hotels
Twenty years ago, when Shade Hotel opened its doors in downtown Manhattan Beach, it did more than give the area its first truly boutique hotel. Shade quickly became a gathering point for the entire community β the go-to venue for non-profit fundraisers, farm-to-table celebrations, beer and wine festivals, and a late-night spot to meet friends for a drink and a meal.
Now, entering its third decade, Shade Hotels has undergone a full rebrand and renovation across both its Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach properties. The Manhattan Beach location, which pioneered the concept in the South Bay, has been refreshed with new guest room designs and revamped restaurant menus, and is unveiling its new identity as Shade at the Beach. The Redondo Beach waterfront property β with its signature rooftop Aquadeck overlooking the Port Royal Marina and its Sea Level farm-to-table restaurant β is becoming Shade at the Marina, with an updated lounge, enhanced guest amenities, and an expanded lineup of curated local events.
What hasnβt changed is the spirit that made Shade a community institution in the first place. Owner Mike Zislis opened the Manhattan Beach location with a vision for a boutique hotel that would be woven into the fabric of community life as naturally as any local business on the block. That vision has more than held, and readers of the Easy Reader have recognized it year after year.
βShade Hotels is honored to be recognized by our guests and neighbors as the best hotels in the South Bay,β Zislis has said. βI poured my blood, sweat and tears into the hotel and Iβm proud to be a part of a community that supports me.β
