Golf: Mira Costa’s girls gold team captured its second consecutive Knabe Cup at Lake Country Club. Megan Kim led the Mustangs with a fourth-place finish shooting an even-par 74. Ashley Kim and Marni Murez each shot a 76 and Jenny Johnson shot an 81 while filling in for Andrea Lee who had a prior commitment. Mira Costa hosts Redondo Thursday at 2:45 p.m. in the final Bay League contest. League finals will be held Wednesday. Oct. 23.

 

Redondo Union High School presents its 6th annual RUHS Sea Hawks Golf Tournament to be held Monday, Nov. 4 at Rio Hondo Golf Club in Downey. Festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Shotgun Start at 11 a.m. The vent includes lunch, driving range, putting contest, dinner, awards and silent auction. Proceeds benefit the RUHS golf program. Basketball: Basketball fans can celebrate the season openers of the Lakers and Clippers while supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month at “Basketball 4 Boobs,” a fundraising event to be held Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Game Changers, 1220 Hermosa Ave. in Hermosa Beach. Former Clipper head coach Don Casey, whose wife is a breast cancer survivor, will host the event that includes drink specials, raffles and basketball swag. All proceeds will be donated locally.

 

Registration is available for the Hermosa Beach Youth Basketball League’s winter 2014 season. Celebrating its 33rd year, the league is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade and is played at the Hermosa Beach Community Center Gym, 710 Pier Ave. Mandatory tryouts will be held Saturday and Sunday. Baseball: Beach City Baseball Academy is holding its Monday after School Baseball Clinic where batting and fielding skills are emphasized using the academy’s indoor batting facility and outdoor field. This program has a 6:1 coach ratio and is recommended for ages 9 through 11. Time is 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Players can choose the number of classes they wish to attend and can start any Monday. The cost is $35 for each two-hour session or $125 for a package of four sessions. Cycling: The Dave Richardson Race Series, an annual event sponsored by the Redondo Beach-based South Bay Wheelmen, is ongoing with the sixth of 11 races to be held Sunday at 9 a.m. at Trancas/Pt. Mugu. The races are a mix of criteriums, road races, and time trials. Only South Bay Wheelmen members can race and riders must have a United States Cycling Federation license to participate. Running: Registration is open for the GI Joe Fall Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk held Saturday, Nov. 9 beginning at 7 a.m. at the Hermosa Beach Pier. Event includes t-shirts, finish line photos, prizes and a post-race party. Cost is $25 per runner through Sept. 20 ($35 Sept. 21-Oct. 18; $40 Oct. 19-31; $45 in November). Team prices are available. Sign-ups are available for the Manhattan Beach Yuletide 5K Run/Walk to be held Saturday, Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m. The event starts and finishes under the Christmas lights on the Manhattan Beach Pier with glow necklaces and t-shirts guaranteed to all pre-registered runners and late registrants while supplies last.
