Nativity exhibit n RPV

Christmas comedy revue

Kentwood Players presents “The Ultimate Christmas Show (Abridged),” a holiday comedy revue. The show opened on Dec. 3 and continues through Dec. 19. Manhattan Beach art show

Torrance art show

Destination: Art’s Seventh Anniversary Exhibition is underway with nearly a hundred paintings on display. The diverse paintings are the work of forty-nine artist members of Destination: Art, a non-profit studio and gallery art cooperative in Torrance.

The Exhibition continues through Dec. 18 at Destination: Art, 1815 W. 213th St., Suite 135. Gallery hours are noon-4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and by appointment.

Free rain barrels

Residents of the West Basin Municipal Water District may now register at westbasin.org for home delivery or a drive-through pick-up of a free rain barrel. Residents must register by Jan. 20. The district will also host two drive-through pick-up events to distribute 400 barrels at each event. The first pick-up will be held from 8-11 a.m. on Jan. 29 at West Basin’s Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility in El Segundo. The second pick-up will be at West Basin’s headquarters in Carson from 8-11 a.m. on Feb. 5. Advance registration for the rain barrels is required.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” 

The musical based on the classic Oscar Wilde play, opened on Dec. 3 and continues through Dec. 19 at 1316 Cabrillo Ave. in downtown Torrance. The production is presented by the Torrance Theatre Company. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Thursdays, followed by a Q&A, 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. CPR, first aid classes

Registration is open for adult and pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED training at the Joslyn Center in Manhattan Beach. Classes will be held on Saturdays in 2022. The dates are Jan. 8, Feb. 5, April 2, June 11, Aug. 6, Oct. 8 and Dec. 3. Each class is from 8 a.m-3 p.m. and limited to 20 persons. Must be 18 or older. Participants must pre-enroll. Saturday, Dec. 18

Local award-winning author Seth Fishman will share his new picture book, “When I Wake Up,” with children and families at 10 a.m. on Dec. 18 in the courtyard at {pages}: a bookstore. This is an interactive pajama party. Feel free to dress in red, purple, green or yellow pajamas to help Fishman in a group reading of his book. Pages is located at 904 Manhattan Ave., Manhattan Beach. Fishman is the author of children’s books “A Hundred Billion Trillion Stars,” “The Ocean in Your Bathtub” and “Power Up.” He has penned young adult novels, as well.

Hermosa Library book sale

The Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library Bookstore will hold its monthly Saturday sale from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The bookstore recently moved to 11th Place behind the Community Center and across from the Alano Club.

The bookstore is open Mondays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is available in the Community Center parking lot.

For the holidays, the bookstore will be closed Dec. 24 and open from 9 a.m.-noon on Dec. 31.

New Year’s Day nature walk

Join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy on Jan. 1 for a guided nature walk at George F. Canyon. You will be guided by a trained naturalist docent to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat with views of the LA Basin.  

Meet at 10:30 a.m. on the back patio of the George F. Canyon Nature Center, 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.

Club meeting

The South Coast Cactus & Succulent Society will meet on Zoom at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 9. Kelly Griffin will give a talk describing his visit to Oaxaca, Mexico. Griffin has traveled extensively worldwide documenting plants and collecting seed and pollen for propagation and hybridization.
