Best Camera Store: Paul’s Photo
“I’ve been coming here since the ‘60s,” said Glen Combs who no longer lives in the area, but still drives to Torrance to get his cameras fixed. “They know what they’re talking about.”
The store itself has been around since 1961 with Paul Comon at the helm throughout the entire time. The shop has been located at three different locations, all on Hawthorne Boulevard. The current location will be going through a remodel within a year.
Owner Paul Comon got into photography after serving in the Korean War in both Japan and Korea. He was always interested in photography and after coming back and “changing college majors more times than some people change underwear,” he went to school to learn photography. If you want proof about his knowledge, you can read book he wrote on the subject published by KODAK called ‘Digital Designs: How to Compose Winning Pictures.’
“We try to offer the best possible customer service,” said Comon. “We’re here to help you select the correct camera and use it properly after you own it.”
They carry all the leading brands and even offer rentals and do repairs. They also have a wide variety of classes including photo adventures and outings. This reporter even got a cracked lens fixed in under five minutes.
“This place is the best,” said Dexter Waxler who shoots with a Nikon D7000 with a battery grip.
