Following a week of solid surf, the South Bay was forecast to go flat on Saturday, the day scheduled for the Dive N’ Surf/South Bay Boardriders Contest at Torrance Beach. So the contest was pushed back a day, and held Sunday. The decision paid off.

Surfing Santa made a surprise appearance at the Jacks/South Bay Boardriders season opening contest in El Porto on Saturday, bringing with him a bag full of big waves. After watching Santa (Tracey Meistrell) throw spray like a snow making machine, delighted groms began calling him “Shreddin’ Santa.”
