Beach Cities Sports: Baseball, running, volleyball and more

Volleyball: The 4th annual CBVA Beach Volleyball Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Friday, Nov. 21 at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach. The ceremony starts at 7 p.m. in the theater followed by a social gathering in the adjacent Hall of Fame center around 8:30 p.m. with live entertainment along with food and beverages available for purchase. The Class of 2014 includes Jose Loiola, Barbra Fontana, Bob Clem, Larry Rundle and current AVP stars Kerri Walsh Jennings and Sean Rosenthal. Guest speakers include Jim Menges, Linda Hanley Jon Lee and Eduardo Bacil. Also recognized will be today’s up and coming greats, including 2014 NCAA Beach Volleyball Champions Sara Hughes and Kirby Burnham, the CBVA’s top ranked players from each rating class and the CBVA Cal Cup Youth State Champions. Tickets are $10 per person and available online. Baseball: Mira Costa coaches and varsity players will be running the Mustang Thanksgiving Baseball Camp for all boys and girls ages 6-13.  The camp will be held Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 24-26 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. All campers receive a t-shirt and a daily snack. For information or to sign up online visit miracostabaseball.com or call 310-892-9988.

 

Football: El Camino College will play its final home of the regular season against Mt. San Antonio on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Redondo Union High School. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

 

Running: Registration on ongoing for the annual GI Bootcamp Fall Pier 2 Pier Run/Walk held in the sand from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier. The event takes place Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 a.m. Participants receive T-shirts, goodie bags and raffle prizes. First and second place male and female runners receive gift certificates to Village Runner stores. Beat the fastest time (male – 18:32, female – 22:42) and win $100. Cost is $40 per runner. The 35th annual Harry Sutter Memorial Turkey Trot Fun Run will take place at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27. The 3-mile course starts and finishes at Sam’s Club parking lot at Torrance Crossroads Center. Participants receive commemorative sweatshirt and chance at raffle prizes. Online registration fee of $30 is available through Nov. 23.
