Beach Volleyball: The CBVA will be hosting tournaments at the Manhattan Beach Pier beginning Saturday, June 18 with a Women’s Open and Men’s AA and B divisions. On Saturday, June 25 Men’s AA, B, Women’s AA and A competitions will be held. For more information, visit cbva.com.

 

The AAU will be holding its Marine Summer Series for girls 12/14/16 divisions at the Marine Street courts in Manhattan Beach on Wednesdays June 29 and July 13. The 18th annual BarryBob 4-person tournament and beach volleyball old-timers day will take place Saturday, July 9 beginning at 9 a.m. at 9th St. and The Strand in Manhattan Beach. Basketball: Dave Miller, current NBA basketball analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet, will be hosting his annual MVP Basketball Camps at Aviation Sports Complex in Redondo Beach. Session I will be held July 11-15 and Session II  Aug. 1-5. Both run from 9 a.m – 3 p.m. The fundamental camp is for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 and geared for all levels of play. Baseball: The Redondo Highlanders and the Sea Hawk Elite Baseball Clubs have announced a merger to become one organization, joining forces in efforts to expand the leadership of quality baseball in Redondo Beach while combining their collective baseball philosophies. The merger will help ensure all youth players have an opportunity to develop their skills to the highest level through a well-defined age-based systematic approach while focusing on teamwork, communication, discipline and a strong work ethic. Running: Registration is open for the 23rd annual Village Runner 4th of July 5K and Firecracker Dash for Kids. Presented by UCLA Health, the event costs $40 for the 5K; $30 for kid’s race. Kayla Montgomery, a distance runner for Nashville’s Lipscomb University who battles multiple sclerosis, will be presented this year’s Pathfinder Award. The 4th annual Sean Brock Foundation 5K & 10K Beach Run with CalCPA will take place Saturday, June 25 at 9 a.m. at Dockweiler State Beach. Captain Sean Brock, United States Marine Corps, was killed in Iraq in 2005 by enemy fire. To honor his twin brother’s legacy, Rayme Brock and a few close friends formed a non-profit foundation that provides educational assistance to family members of service members who lost their lives or were wounded in combat in order for them to pursue their educational endeavors. Swimming: Any contestant wanting to participate in the International Surf Festival’s Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim on Sunday, Aug. 7 who did not complete the 2015 swim must register for the swim on-line and then pass a 500-meter “check out” swim.  Swim “check outs” will be held at the Hermosa Beach Pier on July 16, 23 and 24 from 9 – 11 a.m.  Decisions of Lifeguards at “check out” are final.
