Several construction projects are underway at Metlox Plaza in downtown Manhattan Beach, including a new restaurant and store scheduled to open this fall.

In November, Nick’s Restaurant will open in the space previously occupied by Chez Soi. The group that owns the restaurant, NickCo Hospitality, has several other locations in San Clemente, Laguna Beach and Long Beach. The space has been completely redesigned, according to a representative from the group. The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner when it opens and add weekend breakfasts by the spring. The menu will be similar to that at their other locations, with “a few unique items just for Manhattan Beach” and an extensive wine list. The menu at their Laguna Beach location includes buttermilk fried chicken, a kale and quinoa salad and blackened fish tacos.

Bloume Baby has left its space in between Look! Optometry and Nekter. The store’s lease came to an end and the owner chose not to renew it, according to Metlox developer John Tolkin of Tolkin Group. Moving into its space will be Lulu’s, the women’s clothing and lingerie store that was open for 21 years a few blocks west on Manhattan Beach Boulevard. It closed that location in July. Tolkin said that the store planned to open in the next few weeks.

Waterleaf, which has an interior design showroom and a neighboring home and gift store at the plaza, is knocking down the wall between the two stores to allow customers to move more easily between the two spaces. The gift store has moved into the showroom during the renovation, which the store said would be finished this month.
