City police grant adds enforcement measures

A $100,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety will fund a program in Redondo Beach to cut down on dangerous driving.

The grant, announced Oct. 29, will cover measures such as DUI checkpoints, and impaired-driver patrols, enforcement operations for California’s hands-free cell phone law, bike and pedestrian safety operations focused on driver behavior, officer training/recertification in Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), community education presentations.

“We’re very proud of our department being able to be out in front on this,” said Traffic Sergeant Brian Day. “We’re happy we can use these grants in keeping our community safe.”

The money needs to be spent by the end of September 2022. ER
