Over 200 divers participated in the 42nd Annual Dive N’ Surf Lobster Mobster contest, held on Saturday, the opening day of lobster season. Dive N’ Surf dive manager Alex Stys said the water was warm, conditions glassy, and lobster plentiful.

Dakota Blakely, 25, of Long Beach, won the biggest lobster title with a 9.4 pounder he found in a cave, in about 20 feet of water, on the outside of the Long Beach breakwall.

“I tried to one-hand it, but it bucked away. Then, when I got two hands on it, it wrapped its legs around my body. Luckily, my dad, Shaun Clark was next to me. I jammed it into my dad’s bag,” Blakely said.
