Costa, Redondo girls come up short in soccer CIF playoffs

Playoff runs ended Tuesday for many local girls soccer teams including Mira Costa and Redondo who fell one goal short in each of their CIF-Southern Section Division 2 second round contests.

Redondo (17-3-2) lost to visiting Hart 2-1 with both goalkeepers recording shutouts in the second half.

After Hart took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, Redondo evened the game on Jesse Loren’s goal in the 31st minute.

Hart rallied with the eventual game winner four minutes later as Redondo had two shots bounce off the crossbar.

Mira Costa (15-5-1) saw its title hopes dashed with a 2-1 loss at Newbury Park while Bay League champion Palos Verdes (17-4-2) remained in the hunt with a 3-0 victory at Chaparral.

The Sea Kings will host third-seeded (11-7-7) Corona del Mar in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

In Division 3, second-seeded West Torrance (20-4-2) routed visiting Los Altos 5-0 and plays at third-seeded Yorba Linda (15-4-3) on Thursday.

Also in Division 3, North Torrance lost to third-seeded Warren 2-0.

In Division 4, El Segundo was eliminated by visiting Royal 2-1 on penalty kicks while Vistamar lost at Tarbut V’Torah 5-2 in the second round of Division 7 competition.
