Seventh Sense gallery opens in Redondo Beach

http://www.well-beingindex.com/What is the seventh sense? Is it telepathy? Telekinesis? Something to do with traveling the astral plane within the fifth dimension? Nah, it’s an art gallery in Redondo Beach! Yes, finally, a fine art gallery in North Redondo; and the South Bay folk masters Hang Dog Expression will be performing the grand opening of The Seventh Sense gallery this Saturday, Feb 5.

An interview with owner and artist Sammy Doerr sheds some light on this whole Seventh Sense business.

“The Seventh Sense is a reference to humanity’s current mass awakening of higher consciousness,” explains Doerr. “Science, as well as a large portion of people everywhere, now believes we create reality with our thoughts… this means our thoughts as well as our creative forces are the pinnacle to future outcomes. Art is a wonderful vehicle for manifesting change in ideal ways. It can also work to reach a shared mass consciousness more quickly.”

Hence, the opening of the art gallery – The Seventh Sense.

Doerr says the purpose “is to expand our community’s choices for cultural experiences locally, by providing regular openings that highlight fine art and music new to the scene… We plan to always show 6-8 artists at a time to appeal to a larger circle of aesthetic tastes… also allows for more choices in styles, sizes, colors, and prices.”

The gallery intends to hold a minimum of 4 openings a year, welcoming all artists of all schools.

“So far, I am not aware of an artistic medium we would not represent,” says Doerr.

Saturday’s opening, the official Grand Opening of the gallery, will indeed feature 8 artists, including Doerr herself. The other artists are Aaron Hall and Sheila Becker of Redondo Beach; Rain, Lawndale; Tamera Becker, West L.A.; Terbo Ted, Oakland; Todd Doerr, San Francisco; and Von Paul Read (aka Smar-all over), a wanderlust soul with South Bay roots.

And let’s not forget the craftwork of Hang Dog Expression, playing on your aural, visual, and emotional senses with a live accompaniment of acoustic folk music – with banjo, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, upright bass, and sometimes the musical saw.

“As vibration is an integral part of the harmonic convergence, an art show or any kind of community event is remiss without a musical component,” suggests Doerr.

She concludes with inspiration: “An unknown author was quoted as saying, ‘Without art, civilization would die.’ The magnitude of these provocative words has never left me… The Seventh Sense is my response to the challenges that echo in these words… Besides being a source of support for artists, I hope The Seventh Sense will inspire many others to become more aware of the creative processes and passages that are infused in every aspect of our physical lives… The mere awareness of these creative forces in our lives can take us closer to a more balanced and harmonic existence.”

Doerr hopes to see her gallery aspire to develop local programs which utilize the arts to facilitate healing of the mind and body, for the individual as well as groups of people, societies, and environments. This reporter ponders… that perhaps in the seventh sense there is hope for mankind.

The Seventh Sense is located at 2301 Artesia Blvd, Redondo Beach, CA. The gallery’s grand opening is from 6-11PM, Saturday Feb 5. Free adult refreshments and music will compliment the evening of artistic expression. Hang Dog Expression is expected to be performing between 8-10.
