A man died in Redondo Beach Saturday morning after his SUV crashed and caught fire on Aviation Boulevard.
The car hit a power pole about 7 a.m., on the west side of the street, north of Grant Avenue.
When Redondo Beach police arrived on scene, they found the car engulfed in flames. Burning gasoline was running down Aviation Boulevard for about 100 feet and the power pole was sparking onto the roadway, according to police.
Redondo Beach firefighters pulled the driver from the burning car, but he was declared dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle, and no one else was injured in the crash.
The driver has not yet been identified by the County Coroner’s Office. Police are investigating a cause for the crash and request witnesses to contact Traffic Investigator Clint Daniel at (310) 379-2477.
