The Redondo Beach Police Department will be conducting a DUI and Drivers License Checkpoint tonight at an undisclosed location in Redondo Beach from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m.

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. They will also be checking for proper licensing and according to a press release, will “strive to delay motorists only momentarily.”

According to the police, if you are caught driving drunk you can potentially be brought to jail and have your license suspended as well as insurance increases, DUI classes and other expenses that the police said could exceed $10,000.

“Over the course of the past three years 78 DUI drivers have causes collisions that have injured 117 of our friends and neighbors,” Investigator Jeff Menedence said.

According to the Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety, Christopher, deaths from drunk driving have been going down in California.

“But that still means that hundreds of our friends, family and co-workers are killed each year, along with tens of thousands who are seriously injured. We must all continue to work together to bring an end to these tragedies.”

RBPD also warns drivers to drive safely over the holiday and make sure your friends and family stay safe as well.

If you see a drink driver, call 9-1-1 immediately.
