El Segundo Art Walk matures

Seven years after its founding, the El Segundo Art Walk’s momentum is still growing. It has evolved into a revered local, and even regional institution, while keeping that sense of unexpected wonder that made it so special to begin with. This past Saturday, August 27,  ESAW featured over 50 venues, the unfurling of an ambitious new mural, a new Augmented Reality Piece, and an eclectic range of artists and musicians. In addition, there were two music stages — one at ESAW headquarters downtown near the El Segundo Fire Department (sponsored by Nicol Real Estate), and a new stage on a blocked-off section of Eucalyptus Street in Smoky Hollow (sponsored by BeachLife festival). Another big addition to the El Segundo Art Walk was the Friday Night Kick-Off Concert, headlined by local band Feed The Kitty.

“The Art Walk has kind of grown up. It started out as a scrappy, pioneering entrepreneur, more or less, and it’s kind of matured into a real ongoing concern,” said El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles. — Mark McDermott. Photos by Kevin Cody
