Poor guy.

Whoever he was, he was all alone and peaceful looking at 7 a.m., drifting with himself and a few passerby dolphins, and then the longboard cavalry arrived, converging on Sapphire in Redondo Beach like a pack of hungry wolves.

Myself, Jose, Boris, Max, Marissa, Sarah, Kris, Taylor, Craig, Alaina, and two other of Kris’s friends.  All stellar longboarders, all stoked, and all catching a ton of waves. Why we randomly decided to have a surf party when the sun was just making its appearance, I can’t say, but the kind soul who shared his peak with us didn’t even flinch or frown, and our silly and boisterous selves seemed not to bother too much, us all making sure to share waves and let everyone get their fill.

The tide started getting higher (Sapphire shuts down at a high tide – the waves generally stop breaking) and we moved to the other side of the jetty, where a few head high sets were coming in at topaz. Boris and Max were the kings of the spot today, taking rides all the way to the beach, Boris on his brand new Barahona hand-shaped board.

Mike Purpus and Joey Lombardo, along with a few other Topaz locals were out, and it’s seemed like every other person drifting in the “crowd” in the lineup was a well known friend.  A few waves here and there, a long conversation, a few more waves, and the early morning turned to late, and the sun started warming the sand, breakfast burritos at Brothers calling everyone’s name.
