Kira Lingman, Becker Surfboards manager by day and blonde bombshell rocker chick by night, decided it was time to get back in the water.
Being the blues aficionado’s number one fan (Jose Bacallao and I contest for the title), I was stoked to be asked to join in for some fun on the South side of the Hermosa Pier. Along with Jose Bacallao, Boris Vishnevsky, Frank Paine, and Paul Roustan of www.BumpSetSurf.com, Kira was surfing as though she hadn’t taken any time off, pumping down the line on her yellow 9’0 Wheatley longboard, which matched her dangly champagne locks.
Boris, looking determined as ever, swapped his red Russian longboard “Natasha” for a shorter board today, and he managed to do a couple turns that had him more pumped than a football team that had just won the superbowl. Frank had a few wraps that left him in a tizzy as well, and Bacallao was stylish as ever on a few reeling lefts, the sandbars of Hermosa bearing the fruit of good waves.

As we finally got out after a playful hour of surf and sun, most of the gang popped in at Brothers Burritos for a filling breakfast and some hot bean water. As I sat, between some mildly inappropriate jokes that had us close to tears, I remarked to Bacallao how I was in disbelief that this has become my routine. “I get to wake up in the morning, surf, come here and eat food and laugh hysterically all morning.”
Jose, in between giggles himself, managed to squeak out “Some people go to therapy. We go to Brothers.”
