My new favorite thing in the whole world is watching the sunrise.

Sunrise, King Harbor, Day 96.

Sunrise, King Harbor, Day 96.

Sunsets are incredible, but sunrises are a beginning rather than an end.  For years I wasn’t a morning person, didn’t get up early, didn’t surf, didn’t play, was always anxious….the list goes on.  Throughout this journey I’ve seen some sunrises that have brought tears to my eyes, and watching the incredible beauty of our world encapsulated in swirls of colors in the sky makes me feel truly conscious.  Letting everything else go and giving your complete attention to special moments is incredibly freeing, and I think being fully present is where you can find yourself in some of the happiest moments in your life.

My trip down south this past week to escape the South Bay storm surf left me itching for another Doheney trip, so the girls and I met down at Dana Point Harbor at 7:30, and to our discontent found an ocean with no signs of wave-life.  Naturally we diverted down the road to San Onofre, and along with finding surf, we all realized we made a few mistakes with our attire.  I forgot my bathing suit at home and my wetsuit was still damp and felt like icicles, Chloe only brought her springsuit, and Casey’s wetsuit had an interesting smell….. we dealt with the inconveniences and made the most of the delightful and crowded waves.

Another companionless car ride home and making a fool of myself trying to sing along to rap and reggae had me in fits of giggles.  130 down, 236 silly experiences to go.
