Matisse creative director Sheena Parks said her 17-year-old, shoe company in El Segundo’s Sleepy Hollow district has entered a new phase. “It’s not so much about creating trends anymore. It’s about giving women what they want. It’s the customer who drives our styles now,” she said.

Matisse’s aesthetic is “a little bit country and a little rock and roll.” The look is slightly rugged and road worn. Each pair is hand finished. The designs are fashion focused but not in any way a “fashion victims,” or slave to trends. Matisse offers durable and diverse selections that can be worn to work, lunch, or on a night out. The Caty, a staff favorite, is a boot fusing western and rock-n-roll elements. Matisse’s new Spring 2019 line will be in stores nationwide, beginning in January. Locally Matisse footwear, bags and belts may be found at Kanematsu Textile in El Segundo, Cami and Gigi in Manhattan Beach and Papillon in Redondo Beach.
