Welcome to Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s new and improved SEA Club (Science Education Afternoons) classes! We’ve updated our range of ages for the classes to give a more personalized marine biology experience for the students, learning while having fun exploring the local marine environment. Keep an eye out for the right Sea Club class for you! The club will meet with grades 4th through 6th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on four consecutive Wednesdays, September 5th through the 26th. Pre-registration is required; deadline to register is Wednesday, August 29. Grades 2-3 will meet Wednesdays October 3 through 24, with a deadline to register by September 26.
The Aquarium’s marine laboratory classroom will serve as a base station for hands-on ocean exploration. Under the guidance of CMA’s education staff, students will have an opportunity to use microscopes, binoculars, and other scientific tools during their expeditions around the Aquarium and different destinations within the Cabrillo Coastal Park. Activities may include treks to the adjacent Point Fermin tidepools, investigations of the sandy beach, and visits to the Salinas de San Pedro Saltmarsh where the children will observe animals in nature and learn about the marine habitats of Southern California. Students help plan the activities according to their interests. Our goal is for students to leave their SEA Club experience with a better understanding of and appreciation for their connection to the ocean.
The cost for four weekly sessions is $30 ($27 FRIENDS members) and includes a SEA Club T-shirt. Financial assistance is available. Pre-registration is required.
