Palos Verdes Library District welcomes artist Janelle Carbajal and her solo art exhibition, Excerpts

From May 5 – June 28, artist Janelle Carbajal’s solo art exhibition, Excerpts, will be on display at the Palos Verdes Library District Peninsula Center Library. Excerpts is a portrait series of fictional characters existing in dramatic and mysterious narratives. With little more than a facial expression and a few simple words, Excerpts explores the world of modern mythologies in the making.

Janelle Carbajal is an artist and illustrator best known for her realistic poetical portraits and eerie narrative creations. She received a BFA in painting and printmaking from the University of Southern California and has since produced art for children’s books, graphic novels, and album covers. Heavily inspired by the myths, folktales, and superstitions she grew up hearing in her Mexican-American household, Janelle often features unearthly characters throughout her work. See more of her work at http://www.yeahnelle.com/.

Janelle Carbajal’s exhibition is part of the PVLD Art in Our Library series and she will also be hosting a Live Drawing Session on Saturday, May 11, 2019, 2-3pm in the Peninsula Center Library Community Room. Carbajal will demonstrate her drawing technique with a human model and still life objects with audience participation. A reception for Carbajal will occur immediately following the Drawing Session from 3-4pm in the Peninsula Center Library Foyer.
