Exhibition Grand Opening

Sandpipers: Philanthropy Through the Decades

The Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum is opening a new exhibition titled, Sandpipers: Philanthropy Through the Decades. Guests can enjoy refreshments before the curtain opens on the museum’s new exhibition.

The Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum is proud to present the opening of Sandpipers: Philanthropy Through the Decades.

In 1931, seven Hermosa Beach women came together to help those in the South Bay affected by the Great Depression.  They called their newly organized group of dynamic young women Sandpipers after the busiest bird on the beach. Today, the founders’ dream lives on through their fundraising events and dedication to the original ideals of helping the South Bay community.

This exhibit tells their decades long story of commitment to helping those in need, through archival treasures from the Sandpipers historic collection, such as original documents and photographs illustrating their years of philanthropic work. In an engaging narrative, this exhibit captures their legacy, revealing their growth from a Hermosa Beach group into a South Bay charitable organization. See how they established a scholarship program and provide support to groups that give medical care to children.

Come join us at the Hermosa Beach Museum on the opening night to explore their history and legacy.

This event will take place at the Hermosa Beach Museum, 710 Pier Avenue, and run from 6-8PM

All are welcome- no RSVP necessary.

The mission of the Hermosa Beach Historical Society is to acquire, preserve, and interpret historical memorabilia and other materials pertaining to the history of the City of Hermosa Beach. This collection shall be extended to the public as a source of delight, illumination, and lifelong learning.
