Tri-Branch Program Meeting
Torrance – Beach Cities – Palos Verdes Peninsula
Saturday, January 12, 2019
Torrance Airport Meeting Room
10am Program Begins

AAUW members of the South Bay announce a tri-branch meeting in January of 2019.  Members from the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Torrance and Beach Cities Branches are invited to attend a panel discussion titled;  Celebration of Women Empowerment: The State of Women’s Equity in Los Angeles Today. Discussion will focus on two areas:
• Highlights of Equity: Editorial tales from the areas where good progress has been made using successful strategies.
• Spotlight looking forward: Where is inequity is at its worst?  Where is the most work still needed?

Long time AAUW member and self described Hermosa Beach Girl, Emily Williams will moderate the discussion. Emily is currently the senior deputy for human services and child welfare under LA County Supervisor Ridley Scott.

Our Two Speakers:
  • Carmen Estrda-Schaye, PhD: Governing Council Member, 4th District, Women + Girls Initiative, County of Los Angeles; National Vice President of Diversity of the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC); President of NWPC South Bay.
  • Elena Fernandez, MSW, LCSW:  Director at the St John’s Well Child and Family Center Senior Adjunct Faculty at Pacific Oaks College – Pasadena, California.

The AAUW organization has a long history in the South Bay with three very active branches. Tri Branch meetings are rare.  We hope this larger gathering will create good conversation across the diverse group.  We hope to learn about the specific concerns for Women and Girls here in the South Bay.
