Bohannon Lecture Series

Peninsula Seniors’ Bohannon Lecture Series will be held Wednesdays in February, 10:30-11:30 a.m., at the Scriba Family Center, 602 Deep Valley Drive, Rolling Hills Estates. There will be a coffee social at 10:15 a.m. The topics are “Flying to and Over Alaska” (Feb. 1), “Declutter, Transform, Renew” (Feb. 8), “Stories of the Los Angeles Harbor” (Feb. 15) and “Sports Drinks and Cholera” (Feb. 22). Qi Gong classes

The Palos Verdes Library District is offering a four-class Qi Gong (“chee-gong”) series at the Peninsula Center Library. The classes will be led by Gayla from Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Similar to Tai Chi, Qi Gong is a low impact, mind-body practice that integrates healing movements with meditation. This practice is appropriate for people of all ages and levels of well-being. It can be done standing or sitting. The Qi Gong series will be held every Tuesday in February from 10-11 a.m. in the Community Room at Peninsula Center Library, 701 Silver Spur Road in Rolling Hills Estates. Live musical theater

The Aerospace Players are staging the musical “1776” at the James Armstrong Theater on Feb. 2, 3 and 4. The theater is located at 3330 Civic Center Drive, Torrance. For tickets, go to arts.torranceca.gov.

PV Library District Coloring & Coffee Program

Coloring and Coffee is a new monthly program hosted by the PV Library District librarian where participants will have an opportunity to do some relaxing coloring activities along with a hot cup of coffee or tea and talk with fellow community members. All supplies will be provided. The program will continue every first Tuesday of the month from 10:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. at the Peninsula Center Library Purcell Meeting Room. Registration is not required.

Bronwyn Towle Art Exhibit reception

The Palos Verdes Library District is hosting a special engagement reception at the Malaga Cove Library Gallery from 4 p.m-6 p.m.  Towle is an intuitive and experimental artist who paints contemporary abstract figures using saturated colors. The subject matter of her work primarily focuses on the beauty of the human form and its ability to convey emotion. The Chadwick School instructor’s other exhibitions include the Florence Biennale and the Castello Estense, Ferrara Italy along with shows throughout the United States. 

Conservancy volunteer call

Volunteer with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Rapid Response Team Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-noon. Work alongside field staff at the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve to help protect important wildlife habitat. Help with trail maintenance, fence building, installing signage and more. Students can receive community service hours. No experience needed. Enjoy a George F Canyon Guided Nature Preserve Walk with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at 10:30 a.m. You will be guided by a trained naturalist to discover a unique variety of wildlife while enjoying views of the LA Basin. Meet on the back deck of the George F Canyon Nature Center. Parking in Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. La Opera Talk via Zoom

Educators to be honored

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary has selected nine outstanding educators from public and private schools on the Peninsula to honor. Now in its 42nd year, “Educator of the Year” will take place at Palos Verdes Golf Club. There will be a pre-event reception at 5:45 p.m., followed by dinner and the program. Trail Crew Training

Join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy’s indoor introductory class to learn how you can help improve Peninsula trails. Learn about trail building and maintenance from a nationally-recognized trail expert. Meets at 9 a.m. Following this course, join the conservancy the second Saturday of the month for in-field training and experience. Learn various techniques for erosion repair, building rock walls, proper pruning and more. Outdoor Volunteer Day 

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will hold Outdoor Volunteer Day on Feb. 11 and Feb. 25, 9 a.m.-noon, at Agua Amarga Reserve. Guided nature walk

Join the Los Serenos de Point Vicente for a tour of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center Native Plant Garden and walk along the spectacular bluff top at the Vicente Bluff Reserve. The theme of the walk is “whales.” There is no charge to participate in this event and all ages are welcome. Bring sun/weather protection and water. Sturdy shoes recommended. The walk is about one and a half miles. Meet at 10 a.m. on the front patio of Point Vicente Interpretive Center, located at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West, Rancho Palos Verdes. Guided Nature Walk 

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering a guided nature walk at White Point Nature Preserve at 10:30 a.mNaturalists will guide you along a trail to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat. Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike. Reservations not required. Preserve parking available at the end of the street in a gravel lot at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.

De-clutter 101: From Chaos to Clarity
