If someone in Hermosa offers you an oversized scoop of ceramic ice cream, beware: it may be hot.
The missing ice cream serves as the decorative top of a waste bin outside Paradis Ice Cream on Hermosa Ave, and was lifted by a pair of thieves July 29. The suspects struck during business hours, lifting the lid and running off while the staff were tending to customers on a warm Friday evening.
No one in the store got a good look at the thieves, describing them only as two boys or young men. They were last seen running east on Pier Avenue, ice cream in hand.
“It was stolen while we were pretty busy,” said Paradis co-owner Lars Hartmann. “A customer saw it happen.”
Hartman said that the decorative top will be difficult to replace, and they are offering a reward if it is returned. Police said the investigation is open, but the distinctive nature of the property means it may pop up.
