Ten of the 12 local girls basketball teams advanced to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs with wins on Thursday.
Led by Nicole Swift’s 16 points, Bay League champion Redondo (19-8) ran away from hapless Fountain Valley for a 76-4 home victory in the opening round of Division 1AA competition.
Kyra Hamlin had 15 points and Lane Arkangel added eight points for the Sea Hawks who will host Roosevelt (24-3) on Saturday. All games with the exception of the finals are slated to tip off at 7 p.m. Quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday.
Also in Division 1AA, Bishop Montgomery (14-14) defeated Lakewood 89-47 and will host Centennial/Corona (20-7). West Torrance (22-6) eliminated Long Beach Jordan 49-37 and will host Great Oak (18-7) on Saturday.
Top-seeded Mira Costa (19-8) advanced in Division 1A with a 62-33 home victory over Schurr. Laura Sheckter led the Mustangs with 13 points while Allie Navarette scored 12 points and Halle Maeda added 10 points.
Mira Costa will travel to Beckman (16-12) for its second-round contest.

In Division 2AA, Pioneer League champion North Torrance (16-10) routed Kaiser 54-15 and will travel to Alta Loma (22-4) in the second round.
Lawndale (18-7) was the only one of three local teams in Division 2A to advance. The Cardinals beat Northwood 48-34 and will travel to Mayfair (18-5) on Saturday. Torrance lost at Rio Mesa 60-55 and Hawthorne fell to host Cerritos 67-25.
In Division 3AA, South Torrance (17-10) defeated Hillcrest 48-44 and will host Los Altos (20-7) in the second round.
Palos Verdes (16-12) ran by Granite Hills 57-26 for its Division 3A first-round win and will travel to Cabrillo/Lompoc (18-5) on Saturday.
Also in Division 3A, Leuzinger (17-13) throttled Bellflower 81-39 and will play at San Luis Obispo (13-13) in the second round.
In Division 4AA, El Segundo (16-11) eliminated visiting Nipomo 64-51 and will host Covina (22-6) on Saturday.
