Good Stuff restaurants, a South Bay institution with locations stretching from El Segundo to Redondo Beach, is expanding its empire a bit further south, with a branch set to open in Palos Verdes Estates this Summer.
“We’ve been working on this location for quite some time,” Good Stuff owner Cris Bennett said, saying that the company had searched for a spot on The Hill for about a year and a half before finding a home in the Promenade on the Peninsula shopping center. The difficulty came when the restaurant hit a snag in the permitting process; after submitting plans and receiving a demolition permit last year, Good Stuff has had to wait until February to receive its building permit. “It’s nice to get this thing going again,” Bennett said.

After initially promoting a Spring 2015 opening, the new restaurant looks to be ready in time for summer as seen on the restaurant rendering above. Preliminary plans show the restaurant featuring sizable outdoor patio dining space and a dining/catering area that would also be used for overflow space on busy days, such as Sunday mornings. “It’s a little bigger than our other restaurants, but we really were looking for a place we could have a catering room or a banquet room,” Bennett said, noting that they’ve already fielded inquiries from clubs and organizations on the Peninsula.
Good Stuff’s first restaurant opened in West LA in 1979, with a second restaurant opening in Hermosa Beach just off of The Strand in 1980. Two more locations followed in Redondo Beach and El Segundo around the turn of the Millenium. Last year, the original restaurant was sold to a business partner, retaining the name Good Stuff Burgers, but becoming a separate entity and allowing Bennett the flexibility to open in PV. “Plus, it means I don’t have to drive up to West LA anymore,” he said.
“We’re pretty well known up here and I think we’re at the right price point, serving a good variety of food,” Bennett said. “I think we’re going to do really well. I’m excited. I know people think it’s dicey to open up in PV, but I think we can capitalize on the market up here.” ER
