Running: The 20th Annual Murad Grand View Gator 5K takes place at 8 a.m.  Saturday, May 2 at Grand View Elementary School, 455 24th St., Manhattan Beach. Proceeds benefit the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation and awards will be given to the top three male/female finishers. All children receive a finisher gift. Swimming: Diagnosed with lupus in 2009, Natalie Tun is on a mission to increase awareness and help find a cure for the disease. On Sunday, May 3, she is hosting the inaugural SwimaTun For Lupus at the Equinox South Bay, 5400 W. Rosecrans, Manhattan Beach. Swimmers participate in a 30-minute workout coached by South Bay Swim Team masters coach Steve Hyde and LA Tri Club co-founder Larry Turkheimer. Southern California Aquatics (SCAQ), the largest Masters swimming program in the United States holds a variety of programs at Redondo Union High School. SCAQ holds weekly stroke clinics and ocean workouts as preparation for triathlons, ocean competitions and pool meets with practices fitting most work schedules for swimmers of every level. Basketball: Registration is ongoing for the Hermosa Beach Youth Basketball League’s 3rd Summer League. Open to boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade, the league includes eight games from Monday, July 6 through Thursday, July 30. Tryouts will be held Saturday, June 6. Coach Dave Miller, a current NBA and College basketball analyst, has announced his MVP CAMP summer basketball dates to be held at Aviation Sports Complex 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd Redondo Beach. The Monday through Friday sessions run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. July 6-10 and Aug. 3-7. Both are open to boys and girls ages 5 -14. Online application is available at mvpcamp.com. Beach Tennis: West Coast Beach Tennis will be hosting its Spring Fever tournament on Saturday and Sunday, May 9-10 at 14th St. and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Beach Volleyball: The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) hosts the Icaza Construction Men’s B and Sharkeez Women’s A at Rosecrans on Sunday, May 3. Cost is $45 per team. Also at Rosecrans, the Icaza Construction Men’s B and Sharkeez Coed Unrated tournaments will be held Saturday, May 16. Triathlon: Registration is open for the 11th annual Redondo Beach Triathlon, which will begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 14 at the Veteran’s Park/Pier area in Redondo Beach. All of the proceeds go to Cheer for Children, a non-profit organization that gives seasonal parties and raises money for acutely ill children at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. The USAT sanctioned scenic course event consists of a 1/2-mile swim, 6-mile bike, and 2-mile run. Space is limited to the first 600 entries. A non-competitive mini-sprint (half the distances) is also available. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division and the top two relay teams. Sprint fees are $75 (ages 13-19 and 65 and older), $85 (ages 20-64), $115 (relay). Mini-sprint fees are $65 and $95 for the relay. Add $5 after May 31. Baseball: Beach City Baseball Academy (BCBA) is accepting applications for its “Sixth Tool” $5,000 scholarship. Deadline is May 31. Applicants must reside within 10 miles of Beach City Baseball Academy’s facility in El Segundo and be a graduating 2015 high school senior. Final award is contingent upon applicant’s acceptance and attendance at an accredited college in the United States (university, four-year, or junior college), receipt of an offer to participate in that institution’s baseball program and letter of recommendation from their high school baseball coach. Cycling: The 3rd Annual Tour de Pier, a unique fundraising event that brings one of the hottest indoor fitness activities – stationary cycling – to the Manhattan Beach Pier, takes place Sunday, May 17. Four 50-minute sessions begin at 9 a.m. Whether riding solo or as a team, each bike requires a fundraising minimum of $500. For more information, visit tourdepier.org.
