The Redondo Beach Police will use a $55,000 grant for safer bicyclist and pedestrian travel.
The funding, announced Oct. 29, comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS).
The city will use it on items such as community bike and walk “audits” of streets with a high rates of crashes involving pedestrian and bikes; bike skills, and training for safe riding behaviors for youth; pop-up events to promote visibility on the road, providing reflective arm, and leg bands, and bike headlights, and tail lights; and helmet fitting inspections.
“This grant is huge for the Redondo Beach Community,” said RBPD officer Josh St. Clair.
The city plans to resume bike safety rodeos at schools Jan. 1, after a pause for the pandemic.
The grant money needs to be spent by next September.
