Beach Cities Sports: Beach tennis, running, volleyball and more

Volleyball: Redondo Union High School begins its girls volleyball season with a home match against fellow CIF-SS Division 1 powerhouse Los Alamitos on Thursday Aug. 16 (varsity plays at approximately 6 p.m.).

Registration for the USYVL’s Fall Season is open until September 1. The 8 week league in Hermosa Beach at South Park will run from September 10 – November 3. Beach Sports: The GROM O RAMA will be held Saturday. Aug. 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 22nd Street in Hermosa Beach. The event is sponsored by the South Bay Boardriders Club and made up of six different team and individual competitions, including beach flags, water flags, paddleboard race, obstacle course, nation ball and swim races. Beach Volleyball: The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding its final stop of the 12 event Premier Tour for juniors at the Hermosa Beach Pier Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18-19. Bid winners compete in the championship on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Visit CBVA.com to register.

 

Fundraising: The fourth annual “Row for a Reason” will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8 at Body One Fitness, 201 Herondo St. in Redondo Beach. The event begins at 4 p.m. Friday raising funds for Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach. Each $50 donation ensures a half hour time slot. To register visit rowforareason.org. Beach Tennis: The Beach Tennis Association (BTA) holds its Endless Summer tournament Aug. 25-26 and the Indian Summer tournament Sept. 15-16 in Hermosa Beach. Winners will compete in the BTA US Championship Nov. 3-4 in Hermosa Beach. A Beginner Class will be held Monday evenings 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 13 – Sept. 3. Running: The 41st running of the Manhattan Beach 10k takes place on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 a.m. Founded in 1978, the non-profit race benefits various health and fitness enhancements and includes scholarships to Manhattan Beach high school seniors.
