Hermosa Beach Police Beat

Apartment Burglary

Multiple suspects broke into an apartment near downtown Hermosa last Tuesday morning and took an assortment of valuables, police said.

The suspects used a pry bar to open the locked front door of an apartment in a complex in the 1600 block of Monterey Boulevard, according to police reports. Once inside, they took a laptop, an engagement ring and two backpacks.

Police are trying to determine if security camera footage from the complex captured the robbers in the act.

Lock Torched

A man stole a bicycle from a Hermosa parking garage last Friday by using a torch to burn off the lock, police said

A witness saw the thief enter a parking structure at 1600 Pacific Coast Highway in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, according to police reports. The witness saw the man apply a torch to the lock. Once the lock was broken, the thief rode off with the bicycle.

It was not immediately clear what type of torch the burglar was using, police said.

The structure where the bike was taken serves 24 Hour Fitness, a popular area gym. Signs are now posted throughout the parking lot asking the person who had their bike stolen during the New Year holiday to contact authorities.
