Hermosa Beach About Town

Shakespeare by the Sea

Run as if pursued by a bear to Valley Park next Wednesday and Thursday evening when Shakespeare by the Sea returns to Hermosa Beach with “A Winter’s Tale” and “The Merry Wives of Windsor” in Valley Park. “A Winter’s Tale,” showing on Wednesday, features a queen named Hermione who inspired the “Harry Potter” character and is considered one of Shakespeare’s “problem plays” that do not fit easily into any category. “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” showing on Thursday, is Shakespeare’s comedy of the middle class and features an appearance from the Dionysian knight Sir John Falstaff. Both performances begin at 7 p.m. and are free.

Kat Monk show opening

ShockBoxx Gallery on Cypress Avenue will host the opening reception for .25Alt, a Kat Monk art show, this Saturday. The reception runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the show will run for one week. On Thursday, prior to the show’s opening, the gallery will host the presentation of a Monk portrait of No Doubt founder Gwen Stefani to ArtWorks LA, a children’s educational nonprofit that uses donated works of art to raise funds for children’s causes. The presentation will take place at 5 p.m.
