Historical Party
Flapper girls and bootleggers, stand by: the Hermosa Beach Historical Society will host a 1920s-themed party this Saturday.
The event will run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Hermosas Beach Museum at 710 Pier Ave. Tickets are $50. Proceeds will go to the historical society to increase children’s tours, expand exhibits and promote preservation of historic resources.
The event is titled “A Night at the Biltmore,” alluding to the famous Biltmore hotel, once located in downtown Hermosa where Noble Park now sits. The hotel served as a favorite stopping place for famous jazz acts playing at the nearby Lighthouse Cafe.
Brain Tumor Walk
Pier Plaza will serve as the starting point for the Los Angeles Brain Tumor Walk this Sunday.
Registration for the walk is $25, and will begin at 9 a.m. between Hennessey’s Tavern and The Mermaid. All participants will receive a t-shirt, as well as fruit, granola and water.
Before the race begins, participants will hear remarks from a brain tumor survivor, and after the 5K walk, participants will hear from Ben Ellingson, director of UCLA’s Brain Tumor Imaging Lab.
Funds raised in the race will go toward medical research and advocacy.
