Redondo celebrates catching ‘Waves’
On Monday, July 30, the City of Redondo Beach will introduce “Waves,” the latest addition to the city’s Public Arts Collection, at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.
The 37 foot by 15-foot aluminum sculpture was created by artist Gordon Huether, a Napa-based artist known for his large-scale public art projects, which have been commissioned by public agencies from around the country and internationally.
The artwork is the first funded by the John Parsons Public Art Fund, named in honor of the late Redondo councilman. The sculpture is inspired both by music sound waves and ocean waves and can be seen from the west side of the PAC.
The unveiling ceremony takes place Monday, July 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the RBPAC, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd.
National Night Out at Anderson Park
Redondo Beach will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Anderson Park, from 5 to 9 p.m. The community-building event is intended to build a bridge between residents and law enforcement. Redondo Beach Police will offer demonstrations of their airborne drone and police K-9 programs.
Beach Cities Health District will present a Mindfulness Yoga demonstration, as well as an AdventurePlex inflatable obstacle course for kids, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Redondo Beach City Council is canceling the night’s planned meeting to be part of the festivities.
