Hermosa Beach Police Beat

Landlord suspected

A landlord is suspected of entering her tenant’s South Hermosa residence last Wednesday morning and stealing property, police said.

A suspect entered the property at the 900 block of 5th Street and took several children’s toys, police said.

The tenants were not at home at the time of the theft, but a subsequent review of remote-camera system footage from the area led police to the landlord for the residence, police said. The theft is thought to be related to an ongoing dispute between the landlord and the tenants.

Police have not arrested the landlord, but plan to question her soon.

School theft

A student at Hermosa Valley School had several items stolen from his locker last Wednesday, police said.

The student had left his clothing and personal items in a locker during physical education, police said. When the student returned, he discovered that various items were missing, including an iPhone, a sweatshirt and some cash.

Police believe that another student, rather than someone from off campus, was likely responsible for the theft.

Safe taken

Multiple suspects stole a safe from a North Hermosa residence last Tuesday, police said.

The theft occurred sometime in the afternoon at a home in the 300 block of 30th Street, near Morningside Drive, police said. The residents were not home at the time, and discovered that their bedroom safe was missing when they returned.

The safe, which contained cash and a pink slip for a vehicle belonging to one of the residents, was not attached to the floor, police said.

Police do not believe that the theft is related to a series of Hermosa burglaries on The Strand last year, in which suspects also took unsecured safes. The residents believe they know who took the safe, and detectives are conducting interviews.
