Robbery
A man was robbed and briefly kidnapped early last Thursday morning, according to Hermosa Beach Police Department reports.
The victim was walking in the 600 block of 24th Street near Ardmore Avenue about 1 a.m. when he encountered three other men, police said. The three men lured the man into a nearby car, and drove him to Hawthorne.
The victim was intoxicated at the time, and does not recall how he ended up in the car, police said.
Once there, the suspects forcibly restrained the intoxicated man and took his wallet containing an unknown amount of cash, police said. The suspects were not armed.
After getting the wallet, the suspects let the victim go, police said. The victim was unable to recall further information about the suspects.
Tool Theft
A thief stole a significant quantity of tools from a contractor’s vehicle in South Hermosa last Saturday evening, police said.
The thief entered the unlocked vehicle in the 1200 block of 6th Street near Prospect Avenue about 8 p.m., police said. The thief stole power and hand tools with an estimated value of $5,100 and fled the scene.
No further information about the thief was immediately available.
Breaking and Entering
A thief broke into a home in North Hermosa last Tuesday evening, then briefly stole the resident’s car, according to HBPD.
The suspect entered the victim’s unlocked residence in the 2100 block of Loma Drive, near Ardmore Avenue, about 6 p.m., police said. The victim and another person were inside the house sleeping at the time.
Once inside, the suspect took the victim’s car keys from the home, police said. The suspect then took a car belonging to one of the residents, a 2006 Honda, and drove it about a block away from the residence.
The suspect took cash and coins that had been left in the car, and fled the scene, police said. No damage to the car was reported.
Assault
An altercation on Pier Plaza devolved into a fist fight in the presence of police officers early last Thursday morning, police said.
Two men became involved in a shoving match on the plaza about 1 a.m., police said. Police officers were nearby, and witnessed the suspect punch the victim.
Both the suspect and the victim were intoxicated, police said.
The victim suffered minor injuries in the fight, police said. The suspect was arrested and booked on suspicion of battery.
Martial Arts Studio Attack
A man assaulted the owner of a martial arts studio in downtown Hermosa Monday morning, police said.
The suspect, a transient, entered the studio in the 100 block of Pier Avenue about 9:20 a.m., police said. He approached the studio’s owner and, for unknown reasons, tried to start a fight.
The owner of the studio managed to avoid injury, suffering only some slight soreness, police said. Authorities arrived shortly thereafter and arrested the transient on suspicion of assault.
Bar Theft
A man was arrested early Sunday morning in downtown Hermosa on drug and felony theft charges, police said.
The suspect was at the Underground in the 1300 block of Hermosa Avenue, police said. He allegedly stole property from a man and a woman who were also inside the bar.
It was not immediately clear exactly what the suspect stole, but the value was estimated at more than $950, police said.
The victims reported the theft to police, who found the suspect nearby and arrested him, police said. Police determined the arrestee was intoxicated and, while searching him, discovered a small baggie cocaine.
It is relatively common to find drugs during searches of intoxicated persons, police said.
