Crimes-against-elderly meeting
The Hermosa Beach Community Police Advisory Board will give a presentation next week devoted to preventing crimes against elders.
The meeting will take place at the at the Hermosa Beach Senior Activity Center at 710 Pier Ave. on Wednesday at 12 p.m. The presentation is expected to last 30 to 40 minutes.
Summer celebration
The Community Resources Department will host an open house this Saturday to kick off its slate of summer youth offerings.
The event starts at 11 a.m. on the lawn in front of the Community Center, and will feature information about classes and camps, and a chance to meet counselors from the Valley Park Day Camp. There will also be a bounce house, light refreshments, and photo opportunities.

Film festival
The Hermosa Beach Community Theater will host a nature-themed film festival this Sunday.
Sponsored by companies including Patagonia and Rainbow Sandals, the Adventure Film Festival is a travelling film competition screening the award-winning films devoted to “outdoor exploration” and environmental heroism. Selected films will travel throughout the United States and to other countries. The Hermosa Beach stop is the only one in the Los Angeles area.
Doors for the event open at 5 p.m. Films begin screening at 6:30 p.m. and are expected to run till 9 p.m. Tickets are between $5 and $15. All proceeds from the festival will go to the Sierra Club’s Inspiring Connections Outdoors fund, which works to increase wilderness recreation opportunities for urban youth.
Community First
City Councilmember Hany Fangary will host his monthly Community First meeting this Saturday at City Council Chambers. The meeting will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and anyone is welcome to ask questions or present issues of concern to the city.
