Earth Hour
City officials will participate in Earth Hour by turning off nonessential lighting in government buildings and public landmarks, including the Hermosa Beach Pier 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31.
Earth Hour organizers aim to call attention to climate change and sustainability by urging governments and individuals to turn off nonessential lights and electrical appliances. For more see earthhour.org or the city’s “go green” web page under “residents” on Hermosabch.org, or call Pamela Townsend at 310-318-0242.

Tax breaks

Applications must be filed annually.
Hermosa Beach residents are exempt from paying the utility users tax (UUT) on utilities for their personal residences if the applicants are 62 or older (proof required), or permanently disabled (physician statement required) with a total household income less than $9,000 for the previous calendar year.
The UUT Exemption Application is filed once unless there has been a change in utility service providers since the original application date.
