President named
Former Hermosa Councilman George Barks has been elected president of the executive board of the United States/Mexico Sister Cities Association.
Barks was named executive board president at the association’s 48th annual national conference in Riverside.
In addition, the Hermosa Beach Sister City organization was among only three organizations to receive awards for its 2010 projects. Hermosa is sister city of Loreto, Mexico.
Parking permits
Residential parking permit renewals were being mailed out beginning the week of Jan. 17, and city officials encourage residents to renew by mail to avoid standing in line.
Cost of a residential parking permit is $40, and an employee parking permit costs $143. They may be purchased at Room 101 of City Hall, 1315 Valley Drive, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Permits become half-price on Sept. 1 of each year.
A grace period for the new permits is in effect until March 21, when enforcement begins 8 a.m. For information see hermosabch.org or call 310-318-0217 or 310-318-0206. ER
