After months of campaigning, Christian Anthony Horvath has defeated Candace Allen Nafissi for Redondo Beach’s District 3 City Council seat in a special runoff election. The final totals, as released by Redondo Beach City Clerk Eleanor Manzano Monday morning, had Horvath winning by 12 votes, taking 1422 to Nafissi’s 1410 — or 50.2 percent of the vote to 49.8 percent.

The margin is a near flip of results coming out of May 12’s initial count of the ballots, which gave Nafissi a 16 vote lead over Horvath.

The runoff emerged from a five-person race for the District 3 seat, which will be vacated by Councilman Pat Aust, who is terming out of office. Nafissi won what was essentially a primary at the March 3 General Election by 27 votes over Horvath, and topping the three other challengers to the race, Sam Kartounian, Sandy Marchese and Eric Coleman.

Come back for further updates throughout the day.
